Why "Helen. With the Heart?"

So I actually thought calling the Next World Superpower a great big bunch of organ thieves would cause more hubbub than it actually did.  Maybe when China takes over the world, they'll let me live. I'm not betting on it, but who knows? {wink}

Today, I'm going for something less controversial.  For example, the latest news on the Kosovo international organ smuggling ring!  Ugh. No. Not today.

Something lighter.  Why is this blog called "Helen. With the Heart?"  I think I wrote a blog post on that early in my tenure, but I'm just a lazy bum so I'm not going to look for it and link it here.  I thought I'd tell you the story of Sissy's friend who "like- likes" her.  He's a boy, but not her "boyfriend."  LOL.  From what I've heard, he's a really sweet boy. She had something of a crush on him, and he her, until, finally, they confessed their mutual "like-like" and have been hanging out during recess.  Completely innocent although Teacher Man is ready to eat nails over the whole thing.  Lets call this boy, say, Mikey.

I was mentioning all this to a friend at the local coffee shop (Hey, Chuck! Actually, Chuck just owns the coffee shop, but I told him I've give him a shout out, back to the story...).  So I mentioned this to my friend Becky and this conversation ensured:
     "Oh, is that Mikey with the finger?"  Becky says.
     "What finger?"
     "He's got this birth defect. With his finger."
     I laughed and flipped her off, "This finger?"
     "No," she says and laughs,  "although I'm sure that would make him popular with the middle school crowd.  Sweet boy, but I think some kids are mean to him because he's got this weird finger."
     "Wait, you're telling me a bunch of fifth graders are mean to this kid because he's got a birth defect with his finger?"

She nods, thus proving that kids, no matter where you are in this world, can be real shits.  And regardless of how small your disability is, be it a deformed finger or a transplanted heart, people will always remember you as having that thing.  Mikey. With the Finger.   Helen. With the Heart.  Sometimes, you know, life just cracks me up.
